Marl Pits Leisure Centre Swim Academy
The Trust has always prided itself on providing swimming tuition of the highest quality. The Swim Academy launched in January 2018 and implemented the STA’s International Learn to Swim Programme (ILSP) using STA’s wealth of experience to provide excellent standards of swimming tuition going forward.
The Swim Academy will ensure maximum progression for your child by offering fifty weeks of teaching per year, as well as the opportunity to further develop skills by providing one to one swimming lessons and an exciting array of additional aquatic activities such as Junior lifeguarding programme.

The Learn to swim programme includes the following lesson programmes:
For babies and young children from 4months – 3years these classes are designed to build water confidence through play. The child is accompanied in the water by a parent/guardian with help from a fully qualified STA teacher. These lessons follow the Star Fish Awards.
The classes are held:
Monday 9:30am – 10:30am
Wednesday 9:30am – 10:30am
Friday 9:30am -11:00am
For children of 3-4 years
A class of 6 children will be in the small pool with a fully qualified STA teacher in the water. These lessons follow the Stanley Awards.
The Pre-School lessons are held:
Monday 10:30am – 12:00pm & 1:00pm – 2:30pm
Wednesday 10:30am – 12:00pm & 1:00pm – 2:30pm
Friday 11:00am – 12:00pm & 1:00pm – 2:30pm
For children 4 years +
A class of 8 children will be in the main pool with a fully qualified STA teacher on the side. These lessons work towards the Octopus, Goldfish, Angel Fish and Shark Awards.
The lessons are held:
Monday Friday 4:00pm – 7:00pm
Saturday 8:30am – 12:00pm
Sunday 10:00am – 1:00pm
RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification. This course will not only train you to become a Pool Lifeguard but it can also be a stepping stone into a career in the leisure industry. Topics covered are; Pool Rescue Techniques, Lifeguard Theory, First Aid, CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
The course is physically demanding and will include swimming to set times, lifting casualties and diving to the deepest part of the pool.
