About ‘Up and Active’

Rossendale ‘Up & Active’ Team, formerly the Healthy Lifestyles Team are based at the Adrenaline Centre, Haslingden, and part of the larger East Lancashire ‘Up & Active’ Team.

The ‘Up & Active’ Team offer a wide variety of programmes across Rossendale, which are designed to help people get more active and lose weight. The activities are run by specially trained members of staff.

‘Up and Active’ have a wide range of activities on offer across East Lancashire and are working with a range of providers to bring together activities on offer into one place.  On our website you will find lots more details, including where they take place, who to contact, times and prices.

Something for Everyone

For those that wish to try something new or add to their existing active lifestyle, the website is ideal, giving you lots of ideas on easy ways to stay active.

Through our easy to use website, you can see what activities are happening in your area, both in the leisure centres and in your community.  For inspiration, check out “the most popular activity” section to see what others are doing in your area, keep up to date by ‘subscribing to our mailing list’, viewing our latest ‘News’ and events.

Structured Programmes

If you require a little more support, our structured physical activity 12 week programme may be right for you.  We offer a heavily discounted membership package, of £30 for 12 weeks, in which you will receive an Up & Active membership, entitling you to go swimming, use the gym and try out various exercise classes; something to suit all abilities.

Whilst on the structured physical activity programme you will have your own instructor and be part of a regular group, meeting once a week.  Your instructor will also help and advise you on what other sessions may be appropriate and beneficial.

The weight management activities include FREE Weigh-In sessions, Weekly Drop-In classes and Adult Weight Management courses.

These activities are supported by online resources and information to help you reach your goals.

These programmes do not require a referral from your GP or health professional, as long as any condition you may have is controlled and stable and that you don’t have any underlying risk factors that might stop you from taking part in these courses. If your Body Mass Index (BMI) is over 25kg/m2 and you are over 16 years of age you are eligible to apply.

To find out more please contact the Healthy Lifestyles Team on 01706 221524. You can access the Exercise Referral scheme through your G.P, Physiotherapist, Consultant or Health Visitor.

The Exercise on Prescription and Weight Management schemes are delivered under safe instruction and in a friendly environment through qualified members of staff.

Clientele are able to access the programme for the following:

Cardiac rehabilitation
Asthma/Bronchitis
Weight Management
Anxiety/Stress/Depression
Muscular-Skeletal Weakness (Pre or post operation)
Diabetes Type 1 & 2
Hypertension
Raised Cholesterol
Smoker
General Fitness
Inactive

The scheme starts initially with a 12 week programme, with the team supporting you throughout. The journey then continues down the route of one of these three options:

2. PTAL (Passport to Active Living)
3. Lifestyle Membership
